Yuba Hut Singapore: A Taste of Both Tradional and Fusion Japanese Cuisine

Yuba Hut is a casual dining restaurant that serves a broad range of both traditional and fusion Japanese cuisine. All-time favorites like maki rolls, donburi rice bowls, fresh sashimi, and their signature Aburi style dishes, are recommended for first-timers.

First Impressions

This outlet is in the second basement of Guoco Tower in Tanjong Pagar and is next to Singaporean celebrity-owned restaurant 13 Stages Authentic Malaysian Chicken Rice. You can't miss this restaurant as the signage is quite big and well lit.

There is a menu display both at the entrance and at the overhead, although I find it odd to put a menu display above a communal dining table.

From the entrance, there is a narrow pathway going to the dining area. You can easily spot plenty of communal tables which are ideal for groups of three to four people. Despite the small size of its floor area, our dining experience is comfortable.

The tables are cleaned and sanitized frequently by their staff.

The Staff

The order taker was very friendly and full of enthusiasm. She can tell that we are first-timers and she immediately suggested a promotion for two people. We got a good deal with a choice of any udon or don dish with hot or cold green tea. And it goes together with two slices of California maki. All for less than S$10!

The Service

Food preparation was surprisingly fast but it doesn't compromise the quality of the food. The order taker gave us a lot of Tobiko or flying fish roe on top of our California maki. She also gave us a plate of Crinkled Fries free of charge!

The Food

The California makis that we received may not be visually appealing, but who are we to complain when they gave us a heap of Tobiko! I mean, you just can't imagine how delectable it was. The saltiness of fish roes combined with filling Japanese rice with a slight vinegar-sour taste. And the crunchiness with every bite and the feeling of exploding fish roes inside your mouth is just heavenly.

The bowl of Beef Udon noodle soup that I ordered came steamy hot. The soup was absolutely heart-warming and the broth was savory. The udon noodles are smooth and slippery. The Narutomaki fish cake slices along with chopped leeks and seaweed added texture to this dish. The thin slices of beef were very tender and flavorful.

My wife ordered their Teriyaki Chicken Don. This bowl is surprisingly loaded with chicken meat, rice, and a nice warm poached egg. The chicken is tender and fused with sweet teriyaki sauce sprinkled with black sesame seeds. It greatly complements the hot and fluffy Japanese rice.

If you break the poached egg, you will see the running silky yolk. Mix it up with the rice and create flavorful egg-mixed rice.

The complimentary Crinkled Fries were hot and crispy. It was seasoned with the right amount of saltiness.

We are not really a fan of green tea so we are not able to tell if it is good or bad. But it sure is refreshing enough to wash down the meals that we had.

Our Take

It was a great experience overall and we recommend trying their Beef Udon and Teriyaki Chicken Don

Each meal costs us only S$ 9.90. Having a FOC item is also a great way to treat customers. We will definitely be back to try other foods from their diverse menu.

Operations

They are open daily from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM. They accept all major credit cards, NETS, and cash payments.
