Chicken Up Tanjong Pagar Review: Singapore's Number 1 Korean Fried Chicken

Chicken Up is currently at the forefront of a contemporary approach to Korean cuisine. They became popular because of their world-class fried chicken creations. Chicken Up still continues to offer a different spin to the usual Korean gastronomic offering. Their creative food innovation is kind of similar to that of Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory.

First Impressions

Chicken Up is situated in one of Singapore's historic districts in Tanjong Pagar. It is one of the shophouses, a building type serving both as a residence and a commercial business, along Tanjong Pagar Road.

The dining area was a bit small and can really be uncomfortable when it gets crowded and full. The interiors have a simplistic design. They have plenty of communal tables for larger groups of customers.

The Staff

The staff who ushered us to our seats was courteous and welcomed our request to be transferred to communal seating instead of adjoining tables. The server was friendly and even offered some of their bestsellers which we eventually ordered.

The Service

The food served to us in just a short time. This was a plus point because we were already famished. The payment was done straight at the counter so you can simply leave the restaurant after settling your bill.

The Food

If you like French fries, you will definitely love the Bulgogi Fries we ordered.  It came with hot and crispy shoestring fries mixed with a generous amount of bulgogi-marinated beef strips. Then drizzled with their special white garlic sauce and topped with fresh chopped onions and leeks then sprinkled with sesame seeds.

The bulgogi beef was soft and tender. It greatly complements the fries making it very addictive.

This bestselling Bulgogi Pancake became my best-loved Korean snack. It came with layers of thin and crispy pancake cut into bite-sized portions. Each portion was stuffed with the same succulent and flavorsome bulgogi beef. The thin green scallions made the pancake fragrant that lingers with every mouthful.

Next was an awfully unique dish called Yangpa Bomb. It was a giant onion, delicately cut into layers of thin strips that would blossom when deep-fried. It was covered with a rich and seasoned batter that was crispy and crunchy.

It came piping hot with steam coming out of this delectable treat. Devouring it was the easy part as it was bursting with luscious goodness. It tastes great when dipped with their special sauces.

Yangnyum Up is also a popular item on their menu. It was a basket full of chicken wings, deep-fried the Korean way, and covered with rich and sweet chili sauce then sprinkled with sesame seeds.

The marinade sunk well into the tender chicken meat and you will surely enjoy the sweet sensation playing on your taste buds. It truly was lip-smacking.

Crispy Up is their signature original chicken wing flavor. Indulge yourself with the distinctive crisp and crunch when you gobble this finger-licking fried chicken.

Of course, these mouth-watering dishes won't be complete without Seaweed White Rice. These bowls of rice were fluffy and topped with shreds of seasoned seaweeds then sprinkled with sesame seeds. Perfect with any variant of their delicious fried chicken.

We then tried their signature dessert, the Melon Bingsu. Artfully crafted from fresh melon. The meat was scooped out into yummy melon balls and leaving the shell of the melon as its natural bowl. It is then filled with fine shavings of milk ice and covered with the melon balls. Topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it was truly a bingsu treat like no other.

Finishing our dinner with a unique bulb-shaped glass of Orange Fruity Soda.
