SBCD Korean Tofu House Singapore: Home of the Best Traditional Korean Soft Tofu Stew

SBCD specializes in a variety of Korean Soontofu (soft tofu) soups. Every Soontofu dish is created with soft and silken tofu that is freshly hand-made daily. The soybeans they use are imported directly from Paju, South Korea. Their ten-ingredient secret recipe soup broth is also what keeps customers coming back to SBCD.

First Impressions

The restaurant has an eye-catching contemporary interior design that can be seen from the outside. They have modern LED monitors at their front-of-house that continuously display everything about their restaurant, menu, best sellers, and promotions. From the outside, you can tell that the dining area has a huge space.

Aside from settling your food bills, the cashier area also showcases several Korean-made gift items and food packs that you can purchase on the way out.

There are plenty of communal seats and tables that are perfect for those dining in groups. The tables are being sanitized regularly for every customer.

Another thing nice about this restaurant is that they have separate rooms where you can have a private dining experience and can also be used for corporate dinners.

The Staff

Because of the COVID-19 measures implemented nationwide, only two dining-in customers are allowed per table and we have to wait about 15 minutes queueing outside the restaurant. We were provided with menus so we can already choose what we want to order while waiting.

The Service

The server was very friendly and courteous. She apologized for the long waiting time and to appease us, she offered their private dining room. It was like being upgraded from an economy class to business class in a commercial aircraft.

The Food

Figuring that we were first-timers, the server suggests their combo meals so we can have like a sampler of most of their Korean specials. And so we ordered for:

One set of Spicy Baby Octopus Combo priced at S$ 29.90 and

One set of Bulgogi Combo is also priced at S$ 29.90.

These combo meals come with Hot Stone Rice, Seafood Soontofu, and side dishes.

The side dishes were served in stainless steel bowls and platters. The first side dish was the Deep Fried Yellowfish which were aromatic and comes with a smoky flavor. The fish meat was soft, flaky, and tasty.

We also have Seasoned Fried Seaweed Sheets which perfectly complement a spoonful of white rice.

Then we have Oiji Korean Cucumber Pickles. These crunchy delights were simply fermented in saltwater.

There were also slices of Kimchi which is a traditional side dish of salted and fermented napa cabbage seasoned with spring onions, garlic, ginger, and other spices.

And last of the side dishes was a scoop of Gochujang or Korean Red Chili Pepper Paste seasoned with sesame seeds. It jives well when mixed with rice if you prefer it to be spicy.

Combo Meal Side Dishes

The Hot Stone Rice was steamed white rice served in a traditional stone bowl with a wooden cover to keep the rice piping hot and fragrant. You need to open and mix the rice immediately because the stone bowl is so hot it can cause scorched rice at the bottom. They use Korean rice and they are very pluffy.

The highlight of the combos would be the Seafood Soontofu. They were served in a hot clay pot with the soup still boiling. The broth of the soup was a perfect blend of sweetness and spiciness. It has generous servings of prawns, clams, flower crabs, and of course, silken soft tofu. The tofu was very smooth and greatly complements the soup base.

Seafood Soontofu

This dish comes with an egg that adds thickness to the soup. The broth alone was so delicious you can finish a serving of rice by dunking a spoonful of rice into the soup. The taste is just heavenly.

You can see how quickly we finish our soup and still have a lot of seafood left in our bowls.

The Beef Bulgogi was served on a sizzling plate filled with premium strips of beef rib-eye. It was crazy tender and seeping with savory, mildly sweet smoky flavors. The heap of caramelized onions, scallions, and carrots adds to its intensely flavorful and tantalizingly delicious taste.

And lastly, the Spicy Baby Octopus, also served on a sizzling hot plate, came with a big portion of bite-sized baby octopuses marinated in Gochujang, soy sauce, honey, garlic, sesame oil, and ginger. Every piece of baby octopus was enjoyably chewy, tender, and flavorsome. It has a spicy and sweet taste. The assortment of vegetables accompanying it adds texture and fragrance to every bite.

There are still a lot of dishes to try and we can't wait for our next visit. We highly recommend both the Spicy Baby Octopus and Bulgogi Combos. They are a great value for your money and you will not be disappointed.
