Guzman y Gomez Singapore: Craving For Mexican Burrito Bowls on Rice

Guzman y Gomez is a restaurant chain that originated from Australia specializing on serving Mexican cuisine like burritos, nachos, and tacos.

First Impressions

The restaurant stands out when you go to the second basement of Guoco Tower. That is because of their huge and bright signboard.

They have a big space for their counter and kitchen but sadly, it is not the same for their dining area. The tables are lined up against the wall along an L-shaped pathway. During peek hours, this place tends to be crowded and because there are only stools for seating, it was an uncomfortable experience for us.

They also have a bar-type dining at the back with higher stools ideal for those who are dining solo.

The Staff

I liked the way their order taker shows enthusiasm. He basically helps you out specially if you are a first timer. He knows their products well and was very accommodating to answer our trivial questions.

The Service

Food preparation was a bit long though. We were waiting for about 10 minutes that we approached another staff for a follow-up. The plus points earned during order taking got demerits at this point.

The Food

We ordered for two Burrito Bowls, one with beef and the other with chicken. The food was served in a recyclable and biodegradable rectangular bowl. It was very sturdy and a bit heavier than those made from Styrofoam.

The base of our burrito was white rice which was fluffy. The rest of the ingredients were that of a burrito minus the tortilla wrap.

For the meat, the chicken were cut thigh and drum fillets. You can savor that char-grill smoky aroma when you try a piece with burnt ends. It was tender and soft to bite. It was marinated with their own recipe of Guerrero marinade which was bursting with succulent flavor.

The grilled Aussie steak was perfectly seasoned and hand-rubbed with Chipotle marinade that makes it spicy. It has that delectable barbeque taste with smacks of smoky goodness.

Both our meats were topped with freshly chopped Pico de Gallo salsa and black beans. Then there was this generous amount of melted shavings of Australian Jack cheese. And of course, a handful of their house-made corn chips at the side.

They have a small Salsa Station where you can help yourself with free additional toppings of pickled jalapenos, Spanish onions, and chopped coriander. If you want to add extra kick to your meal, you can also dress it up with their roasted jalapeno salsa (mild spicy), smoky chipotle salsa (medium spicy), and habanero salsa (hot spicy).

Our Take

The food was great although it was really an uncomfortable experience because it started to get crowded when we came down. It seems to be better to order your meal to go and enjoy your meal elsewhere at your own convenience.

Also, there is room for improvement to efficiently prepare food at their kitchen.

Operations

They are open daily as early as 8:00 AM until 9:30 PM. They accept all major credit cards, NETS, and cash payments.

Speak Your Mind

We would like to try other Mexican cuisines other than burritos and nachos. Do you have any recommendations?
