The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS) is a Halal-certified restaurant chain that specializes in serving traditionally prepared steamed, roasted, honey barbecued and soy sauce chicken as its signature products.
First Impressions
From the frontage of the restaurant, you can tell that they serve traditional food based on its native-inspired patterns. The interiors have a rustic design matched with dim lights that somehow give a nostalgic feel.
There are adjoined tables that are set up to accommodate groups of at most four people and they have round tables to take in customers in larger groups.
The Staff
The server that greeted us thought that we are Malaysians and spoke to us in Bahasa Melayu. When he realized that we are natives of the Philippines he spoke some Filipino phrases that surprised us. He was all smiles. He offered us a round table so we can be seated comfortably.
The Service
When our order was taken, it only took less than 10 minutes and all our food was already set on our table. There was no systematic sequence. It was like they serve the food the moment it becomes available.
Payment processing was slow though. There were only a few customers that time and payment by credit card took too long. Whenever that happens it makes me worried whether my card was being used correctly or not.
The Food
Trying cuisines from different countries always makes me excited and that was one of those moments.
Their Golden Fortune Rolls appeared to be darker in color compared to how they look like in their menu. At a glance, it seemed a bit overcooked. The vegetable garnishing does not look appealing as well.
However, the first bite was enough to make me like this version of spring rolls. It was crispy and I can taste the fusion of meat and spices which was very flavorful. When dipped with their special sauce, the tanginess bursts with blended sweetness. The sauce serving was just not enough that we asked for another portion of it.

Golden Fortune Rolls
The Soy Sauce Chicken is one of their signature dishes. It was a portion of roasted chicken drizzled with special soy sauce. It was topped with chopped onion leeks and garnished with cucumber slices.
The food was still warm when served and the chicken was very tender. It was delicious and it has that authentic flavor that Malaysians love. Singapore's roasted chicken rice set tasted differently. The chicken was cooked thoroughly that there were no signs of red blood on the inside. It really satisfied our hunger pangs when eaten with fragrant chicken-flavored Hainanese rice.

Soy Sauce Chicken
Another signature dish is their Crispy Roast Chicken which is essentially the same as the Soy Sauce Chicken minus the soy sauce. The difference is that other than the slight change in presentation, the skin is crisp and you can smell the scent of actual roasted chicken.

Our Take
The food was great. We have a fantastic dining experience. No wonder TCRS became a successful family restaurant chain with over 100 outlets across Malaysia. They actually have a widespread of local Hainanese and Malaysian cuisines although we only tried three of them.
We highly recommend their signature Crispy Roasted Chicken that goes well with their chicken flavored rice.

They are open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. They accept all major credit cards and cash payments.
