Saizeriya is a famous casual Italian restaurant chain that originated from Japan. They serve a wide variety of Italian everyday meals with prices even students can afford.
First Impressions
Saizeriya has a pleasant ambiance and a spacious dining area with contemporary interior design. They have communal tables to comfortably accommodate a party of at least four people.
I like the way they showcase their best sellers at the frontage. This way, customers can have a visual idea of what the food would look like and how the portion sizes are when served.
The Staff
The server that attended to us was friendly. She initially ushered us to adjoined tables but we requested to be seated on communal dining to which she happily obliged.
Once seated, she informed us that we can browse through their menu which was published online. And when we are ready we can press the button on the table and she will come over to take our order. Simple process yet effective (although other restaurants have already invested in smartphone apps for order processing).
The Service
Foods were served pretty quick. They offer self-serve free-flow sodas that can be collected from the soda dispenser machine.
I like the way they carefully place the food on the table and when I asked for additional utensils, the server responded immediately without hesitation.
The Food
Let us now run down the food we ordered starting with the pasta. The spaghetti they use is Liquori brand which is the oldest pasta manufacturer in Italy since 1795 and is known for its good, traditional and authentic flavor.
The Spaghetti Beef Bolognese was saucy and generously topped with grated parmesan cheese. The presentation can be improved and the portion size was just right.
It tasted a bit bland but what can you expect with a S$ 3.90 dish? It can be seasoned with salt and pepper according to your preferred saltiness and spiciness. Or you can ask for more grated parmesan cheese if you don't want to add more salt.
Spaghetti Beef Bolognese
Before starting with the Spaghetti Aglio Olio Shrimp and Broccoli you need to season it first with salt and pepper to enhance its flavor. The pasta was moist and perfectly blended with Peperoncino sauce for that hint of spiciness. The generous toppings of parsley brought out the scent of the olive oil and garlic aroma. The broccoli was crunchy and the shrimps were savory.
This pasta dish was priced at S$ 5.90.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio Shrimp and Broccoli
The Squid Ink Spaghetti was my personal favorite. Prized at S$ 5.90, the special Squid Ink Sauce was rich and saporous. The amount of sliced squid meat served was given utmost importance to really bring out the seafood flavor. The squid was tasty, soft, and chewy.

It came together with a piece of pork sausage stuffed with oozing cheese inside. It was tasty and not salty.
This dish was garnished with crispy potato wedges and a generous amount of grilled corn kernels to complete this S$ 8.90 meal.
Cheese Chicken and Sausage
We also tried their Salmon Salad. It was a healthy serving of fresh baby spinach, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and corn tossed with their special salad dressing. It was topped with crunchy croutons and sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese.
Then two big slices of savory Norwegian smoked salmon was placed on top to complete this dish.
This salad was prized at S$ 5.90.
Salmon Salad
My son loves Italian pizzas so we ordered their Pineapple and Bacon thin crust pizza prized at S$ 6.90. It came unsliced and a pizza slicer was provided. You can hear the crispiness of the pizza as you slice it.
The tomato sauce was rich and flavorful and the amount of mozzarella cheese topped on it was very generous. The bacon strips were not salty and were very tasty. The pineapple chunks added enhanced the overall flavor and it was a delightful experience for my son.

We also got their Original Focaccia prized at S$ 1.90 each. It was a flat oven-baked Italian bread with a similar texture to pizza dough.
