Mochi Restaurant Den Haag: A Menuless Restaurant Dining Experience

Have you ever been to a restaurant that does not have any menu and when you ask the waiter for one he will only smile and say "Let our chef surprise you."

Let me share with you my experience with a special and unique restaurant when I was in Den Haag (The Hague) the Netherlands. My colleagues and I were looking for a place to dine along the street of Mallemolen and we stopped at Mochi Restaurant.

First Impressions

It was summer and the day was longer so at 9:30 PM the sun was still shining. Mochi Restaurant has a very noticeable frontage and they offer al-fresco dining which my colleagues prefer as the weather was perfectly nice.

I never got the chance to see the inside of the restaurant. Their al-fresco setup though was interesting. The tables outside were made of stone slabs that sit on top of a metal fixture. The seats were communal wooden benches that gave a nostalgic feeling.

The Staff

The waiter was friendly and we even got the chance to talk to the chef himself. Order taking is quite simple since there is no menu. They will approach you and ask you questions like "Is this your first visit", "What you cannot eat", "How do you like your meat done" and that is it.

The Service

After ordering we asked for drinks. I ordered a lemonade and they gave me one in the bottle. The waiting time for food was reasonable and we didn't mind waiting as the place was vibrant and cozy.

Once the first plate of our order was placed on the table, the rest of the food came in short intervals. For every dish, the waiter diligently explains what the food is, what ingredients were used, and how it was prepared.

The Food

They don't have names of the dishes they serve. They just describe it to you in detail. And you will just be surprised by the creativity and passion that was put into making every dish.

The presentation was like an art. And the combination of colors of the food and the plates used really complimented each other.

Every dish was unique and you won't find other customers having the same food like yours. It was an absolute culinary delight I would say. All the dishes served to us were tastefully done and represented a wide variety of Latin and Asian cuisines. If you are into fusion food, then you will love the food they serve.

Feast your eyes on the food photos I captured.

Our Take

The food is a bit pricey but if you like being surprised and you fancy good East-West fusion cuisine, then we highly recommend Mochi Restaurant in the Hague, if you visit the Netherlands. You will never see the same food they served you even if you visit the second time.

Operations

They are open daily from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Major credit cards and cash payments are accepted here.
